General questions

Who is Shiny Detailing?

Shiny Detailing is a local, Aussie owner-operated mobile detailing business based in Ingleside on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Owner Brad has 22 years in the trade and specialises in boat detailing, ceramic coating, and buffing and polishing for cars, caravans and trailer boats.

Do you come to me?

Yes, we're fully mobile. Shiny Detailing comes to your home, marina, boat ramp or workplace, so there's no dropping off and no waiting around.

How much does detailing cost?

It depends on the size and condition of the vehicle or boat, and the finish you want. Request a free quote, ideally with a few photos, and Brad will give you a clear price before any work starts.

What areas do you service?

Shiny Detailing is based in Ingleside and services the Northern Beaches, Pittwater, Palm Beach, Mona Vale and the North Shore, and travels Sydney wide for boats, cars and caravans.

What products do you use?

We use Starke products, some of the best marine and automotive care products in the world, together with professional machine polishers and an Optima steam cleaner for interiors.

How much experience do you have?

Brad has 22 years in the detailing trade and more than 10,000 jobs completed, including Riviera, Sunseeker and Princess motor yachts, thousands of other boats, and five Sydney boat shows.

Boat Detailing

Can you polish an old, faded boat?

In most cases, yes. Oxidised gelcoat responds well to machine compounding and polishing. Shiny Detailing cuts back the chalky surface layer, polishes the gelcoat to a gloss, then protects it so the finish lasts.

Do you detail boats on moorings and in marinas?

Yes. Shiny Detailing is fully mobile, so we detail boats on moorings, in marina berths, at boat ramps and on trailers around Pittwater, the Northern Beaches and Sydney Harbour.

What size boats do you detail?

Everything from small trailer boats to superyachts. Shiny Detailing has detailed Riviera, Sunseeker and Princess motor yachts and thousands of other boats, including work at five Sydney boat shows.

What products do you use on boats?

We use Starke marine care products, some of the best in the world, for washing, polishing and protecting gelcoat, paint and fibreglass in salt water conditions.

Ceramic Coating

How long does ceramic coating last?

Typically several years with proper care. How long a ceramic coating lasts depends on the product, how the vehicle or boat is stored and how it is washed. Shiny Detailing will tell you the rated life of the coating we recommend for your job.

Can you ceramic coat a boat or caravan?

Yes. Shiny Detailing applies ceramic coatings to cars, caravans, trailer boats and larger boats, protecting paint, gelcoat and fibreglass from salt, dirt and UV.

What ceramic product do you use?

Shiny Detailing uses Ceramic Pro Shine, a water-based SiO2 ceramic spray wax infused with titanium for shine, a hydrophobic finish and UV protection. It is safe on all vehicles and is reapplied every 30 days for the best protection. For boats we also use Revive, an elixir made for watercraft.

Does my paint need polishing before a ceramic coating?

Usually, yes. A coating seals in whatever is underneath, so we wash, decontaminate and machine polish first to remove swirls, oxidation and light scratches. That way the coating locks in a clean, glossy finish.

Buffing & Polishing

Can buffing remove scratches?

Machine buffing removes swirl marks and light scratches that sit in the clear coat or gelcoat. Deeper scratches that go through to the primer can be improved but not fully removed, and Shiny Detailing will tell you honestly what to expect before we start.

What is the difference between buffing and polishing?

Buffing (compounding) uses a more abrasive product to cut away oxidation and scratches. Polishing then refines the surface to a high gloss. Most jobs use both, followed by a wax, sealant or ceramic coating for protection.

Caravan Detailing

Can you detail my caravan at home?

Yes. Shiny Detailing is fully mobile and details caravans in your driveway or wherever the van is stored, across the Northern Beaches, Pittwater, the North Shore and Sydney wide.

Can faded caravan fibreglass be restored?

Usually. Oxidised caravan fibreglass responds well to machine compounding and polishing. Once restored, a sealant or ceramic coating helps keep it glossy for longer.

Trailer Boat Detailing

Do you clean the trailer too?

Yes. Shiny Detailing's trailer boat detail covers the hull, deck and trailer, finished with protection to stand up to salt water.

Can you detail my trailer boat at the ramp?

Yes. We are fully mobile and can detail a trailer boat at your home, workplace or boat ramp across the Northern Beaches and Pittwater.

Yes, Shiny Detailing is fully mobile. We come to your home, marina, boat ramp or workplace across the Northern Beaches, Pittwater, the North Shore and Sydney wide.

Do you clean car interiors?

Yes. We steam clean carpets, seats and interiors with an Optima steam cleaner, which lifts dirt, stains and smells and sanitises surfaces without harsh chemicals. Leather is cleaned and conditioned.
